What’s your play?
I’ve always wondered what I’d do if I was playing a huge buy in poker tournament and someone went all in on the first hand. Well last week I read an article which canvassed the views of a group of professionals and asked them this very same question. Well almost. The scenario they gave has two specific features: the player first to act shoves from under the gun without looking - and you are second to act (so there are still 8 players still to act).
So you’ve travelled to Vegas to play, ponied up your ten grand, and you’re sat there with a 30,000 stack in second position, as you do. On the very first hand some bloke you’ve never seen before lamps all in….
The answers below are the real answers given by professional players (and one basketball player – you can probably spot his answer even if you don’t know the names). I’ve put the names of the players next to their selections for info. I have to say I’m amazed how loose some of the better known players claim to be. But the choice is yours. What’s your play? This week’s question is:
What is your calling range when the UTG player shoves all in first hand of a $10k event without looking? Answer this week’s poll and leave a comment with your Twitter username to be in with a chance of winning an Irish Winter Festival satellite token. I’d be interested in your thoughts about the fact there are still 8 players to act. What would they need to overcall?
Congratulations to @ToffeePeteTweet for winning last week’s poll.
