Down to just over 1 million in chips, Patryk Pietnoczko moved all-in preflop on the button, called fairly sharply by Tim Hartmann. Both players had picked up an ace – so this move was almost guaranteed with the stacks as they were and the blinds at 40k/80k. Hartmann’s Ad had a 4c kicker, while the at-risk Pietnoczko’s had the 8c. He might have been ahead preflop, but the 9h-4h-2c flop changed all that, handing the final pot, the trophy, and the €100,000 top prize to his equally tenacious opponent Tim Hartmann.
Pietnoczko had been sporting on the final table a T-shirt bearing the legend “City of Brighton DVLPMNT DEPT Min Charge 4$” (see above) – hopefully his €56,000 prize can get him a few vowels.
